We started going here when it was under the previous owner, the uncle of the new owner. My husband and I enjoy it even more than we did before. They have added a new salsa option, which is delicious. I have had the chicken quesadillas, huevos rancheros, and the dorado fish tacos. The food now is very fresh tasting and more flavorful. I can taste the love and care that went into making it. Whereas before it was good but not great. I recommend El Meson. It is an added bonus that the people working there are very friendly and recognize us when we walk in. I am excited to see what they decide to add to the menu, putting their own touch to the place. It can only get better.

Little places like this make Castle Rock such a sweet town. Family owned and operated I am sure. Great people and food. Clean. The best kind of "divey " place. This is not black tie affair but if you want good food from good people in a clean and cozy locale give them a try! They have real menudo for those interested.

This place is fantastic. The food is great! I had some tacos and they were on point. Not to mention the home made rojo and verde sauces were delicious. Not sure why people are complaining about the service in a place where you order at the counter and seat yourself?! I had some asada tacos and som alambre tacos, and lemme tell you, they were on point.

I love this place! We just recently moved back to Castle Rock after many years away and spotted this place as we drove by. Since stopping the first time we go several times a week. Inexpensive, well made food that is very tasty. It's clean, friendly, great food and killer street tacos. Yum!

I've been eating here about twice a week for the last 6 months, this place is great. $2 breakfast burritos for a grab n go, or hungry man sized ones for a few bucks more. My favorite breakfast is the chorizo and eggs plate. For lunch and dinner I have yet to order badly. The salsa is the best in town, as is the green chile. The only down side is that they close early, so don't plan on grabbing tacos here when the bars close down.

This review is for the new owners. They have been open only 2 weeks, I hope they stay. Great Tacos! Great service. Can't wait to try their breakfast. We had the asada, carnitas, and al pastor tacos and they were all fantastic. Owners were friendly, and let us try their new vegetarian green chile.

El Meson is the BEST Mexican restaurant in the Castle Rock area hands down. The latest new Mexican restaurant here, Blue Nectar, is getting all the business and publicity, but we had dinner there last weekend and it was terrible, we'll never go back. Chips and salsa was stale, had zero flavor, food was mediocre, and that's being generous. El Meson is always clean, amazing service and the food and drink a both FABULOUS! I will never go anywhere else again and I advise you to do that same. Don't waste your money, time or taste buds anywhere else.

Great food! Nice new owners. Reasonable priced. Stopped by after a day at the Rec center pool with the family. The food was great an authentic. My wife is from Mexico and I have spent time working in Tijuana. It is tough to find traditional food (not Tex-Mex) in CO at a great price. We definitely will be back. Looking forward to trying their homemade flan next time. Art

Just finished up a job down here in Castle rock and stumbled on this little gem. Food is dang good! The bathrooms are clean, service was great. Overall a great experience! I'll be sure to come here anytime I'm in the area.

Santiago's was closed, so we thought we would try here. Same price...not the same quality! Lots of potatoes, no seasoning, no green chili sauce, and no eggs! We thought we were getting bacon, but nope. Won't go back for sure!

Authentic tacos and salsa:) I had the El pastor and Lengua tacos they were very good. Green salsa is hot red is hotter:) The owner is very nice also. Just for the record the tacos are authentic which is what I am looking for in CR. The breakfast burritos are too small and skip the huevos rancheros. The tacos are 1.60 each and not huge but are the closest thing i can find to my favorite taco stand in Portland.

Really? First? Admittedly every time I have been in this place I have been the only "gringo" but hey, good for me! There are a couple of signs posted on the curb outside this place advertising $2 breakfast burritos and tamales. How could I say no? The service is quick, the menu is big and easy to read and pretty extensive. The tortas are delicious and not overly greasy. The tamales are very flavorful and can be enjoyed either smothered or plain. The breakfast burritos are made at the time of your order and vary in levels of" heat" based on your order. They serve sodas from Mexico made with real sugar. Having a quality, tasty and affordable Mexican restaurant right off the Highway in Castle Rock is awesome.

I mostly just end up at El Mason for the breakfast burrito, and boy are they good. For $2 they are hot and ready to go, or you can opt to have a fresh (and larger) one made for a bit more. Either way, get the one with chorizo.. it's delicious. There's a little bar with a few different salsas, onions and cilantro to add to your taste. They have a much larger menu with lunch/dinner items such as tortas and tamales. If you want cheap, fast, authentic Mexican, give them a try!

Chorizo breakfast burritos ($2) are so good and I go here for only that. Everything else is sub-Taco Bell.

Good food, good price, portions are somewhat small. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in town.

We ate here today - over $18 for a smothered burrito with no cheese, lettuce or tomato, plus it was lukewarm, and a torta with chewy meat, plus 2 Cokes. All served with the flimsiest plastic ware on a styrofoam plate. Plus come and get your own food at the counter from a rude assistant. It was awful. Never again. Our first clue should have been that it was lunchtime and there were only 3 cars parked outside!

Damn good food, and authentic family-style cooking. Been eating there with my family and friends for 5+ years, and have always had phenomenal food - never had any of the bad experiences cited by anyone here. Definitely has a "hole in the wall" feel, but the best places always do. I've spent many years traveling in Mexico, and this is much like the places you'd find there. However, if your idea of "good" Mexican food is something akin to tex-mex or Brewery Bar (both revolting abominations), don't even think of trying this - you won't like it.

I freakin love this place! Try a Torta for lunch. They are addictive. As are the tamales and breakfast burritos. If you miss a good corner mexican place like back in California- this is the place. I often eat there 4 times a week. A good sign is that I always see the local hispanic workers going here to eat. Hang back and see what they order, then get the same thing. Chances are it's pretty terrific!

Our favorite Mexican resturant in Castle Rock. Their salsa is the best and the sizzling Fajita Regias is wonderful. Reasonably priced and friendly service.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
